I am Dr Simone Borsci. The coordinator of the research teams at the University of Twente for the SSH Sector Plan. Since 2023, I have been an Associate Professor of Human Factors and Cognitive Ergonomics at the Cognition, Data Analytics, and Education (CoDE) group of the Learning, Data and Technology Department, Faculty of Psychology, University of Twente. I also serve as the Research Team Coordinator for the Human Factors and Cognition Team at CoDE-BMS. I am also a Senior Honorary Research Fellow in Human Factors and MedTech Assessment at Imperial College London (since 2018), and a Fellow of the Digital Society Institute – University of Twente (since 2021). Before joining the University of Twente, I held academic and research positions at institutions such as Imperial College London, the University of Nottingham, Brunel University, and the University of Hertfordshire. My professional experience also includes leading interdisciplinary teams, such as the Human Artificial Agents Interaction group at Twente’s Digital Society Institute. My research interests center on human factors, cognitive ergonomics, human-computer interaction, artificial intelligence, and MedTech assessment. Over the years, I have secured funding for numerous national and international research projects, achieving a high success rate in grant applications. Notable projects I have contributed to include EU Horizon and Innovate UK grants, with applications ranging from healthcare technologies to smart mobility and autonomous systems. I am actively involved in editorial activities, serving as an Academic Editor for journals such as Human Factors in Healthcare, PlosOne, and Cogent Engineering. I also contribute to the organization of international conferences, including workshops and boards for the HCII conferences and Adaptive XAI Intelligent User Interfaces. Recent publications include papers in Transportation Research Interdisciplinary Perspectives, BMC Medical Education, IEEE Intelligent Systems, and Personal and Ubiquitous Computing. My work has expanded the understanding of human factors in areas such as conversational agents, algorithmic bias, and the integration of artificial intelligence in clinical and social contexts. Through my academic and professional journey, I have consistently aimed at advancing the fields of human factors and cognitive ergonomics, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and contributing to the development of innovative technologies that enhance societal resilience and human-centered design.
